9 of the Best Non-Alcoholic Wines For 2023

Out of all of the alcoholic beverages, wine tends to have the most ardent and informed aficionados. So when it comes to creating fine non-alcoholic wines, winemakers have to step up their game to satisfy those picky drinkers that have decided to go booze-free.

Though non-alcoholic wines can come close to the experience of sipping on a classic red or bubbly Champagne, it’s tough to replicate a fine, alcoholic wine.

NA wine is regular wine that has gone through some processing to remove the alcohol. And often, those methods can strip the wine of other important, flavor-enhancing ingredients like tannins and floral aromas, which can end up making for a flat and bland beverage.

“Luckily, the polyphenols, the antioxidants found in red wine, remain intact even when the alcohol is removed,” said Krista Maguire, RD, and senior nutrition manager at BODi. “A 2012 study in Circulation Research showed that non-alcoholic wine might also benefit heart health.”

Also, by taking away the alcohol, you lose the aromas that define most wines because those smells are carried to your nose by the alcohol evaporating off the vino’s surface. That doesn’t happen with the non-alcohol versions.

But there are a few wineries out there that are getting pretty good at making a passable faux-vino. We picked some of the best non-alcoholic wines on the market, from sparkling to red, that still retain some of that authentic flavor and taste and may still satisfy the snobbiest of wine drinkers.
